ונתנה הארץ פריה ואכלתם לשבע וישבתם לבטח עליה׃
וְנָתְנָ֤ה הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ פִּרְיָ֔הּ וַאֲכַלְתֶּ֖ם לָשֹׂ֑בַע וִֽישַׁבְתֶּ֥ם לָבֶ֖טַח עָלֶֽיהָ׃
וְנָתְנָה הָאָרֶץ פִּרְיָהּ וַאֲכַלְתֶּם לָשֹׂבַע וִֽישַׁבְתֶּם לָבֶטַח עָלֶֽיהָ׃
The land will give forth its fruit and you will eat your fill, and you will live securely on it.
Onkelosוְתִתֵּן אַרְעָא אִבַּהּ וְתֵיכְלוּן לְמִשְׂבָּע וְתֵיתְבוּן לְרָחֲצָן עֲלַהּ
Rashiונתנה הארץ וגו' וישבתם לבטח עליה. שלא תדאגו משנת בצורת: ואכלתם לשבע. אף בתוך המעים תהא בו ברכה:
Rashi · EnglishThe land will give forth, etc. and you will live securely on it. You need not worry about a drought year. And eat your fill, there will be blessing even within your stomach.
וכי תאמרו מה־נאכל בשנה השביעת הן לא נזרע ולא נאסף את־תבואתנו׃
וְכִ֣י תֹאמְר֔וּ מַה־נֹּאכַ֤֖ל בַּשָּׁנָ֣ה הַשְּׁבִיעִ֑ת הֵ֚ן לֹ֣א נִזְרָ֔ע וְלֹ֥א נֶאֱסֹ֖ף אֶת־תְּבוּאָתֵֽנוּ׃
וְכִי תֹאמְרוּ מַה־נֹּאכַל בַּשָּׁנָה הַשְּׁבִיעִת הֵן לֹא נִזְרָע וְלֹא נֶאֱסֹף אֶת־תְּבוּאָתֵֽנוּ׃
If you shall say (ask) What will we eat in the seventh year, for lo! we have not planted nor gathered our produce?
Onkelosוַאֲרֵי תֵימְרוּן מָא נֵיכוּל בְּשַׁתָּא שְׁבִיעֵתָא הָא לָא נִזְרָע וְלָא נִכְנוֹשׁ יָת עֲלַלְתָּנָא
Rashiולא נאסף. אל הבית: את תבואתנו. כגון יין ופירות האילן, וספיחין הבאים מאליהם (פסחים נא:):
Rashi · EnglishNor gathered [our produce] into the house. Our produce, such as wine, fruit from trees, and crops which grow on their own.
וצויתי את־ברכתי לכם בשנה הששית ועשת את־התבואה לשלש השנים׃
וְצִוִּ֤יתִי אֶת־בִּרְכָתִי֙ לָכֶ֔ם בַּשָּׁנָ֖ה הַשִּׁשִּׁ֑ית וְעָשָׂת֙ אֶת־הַתְּבוּאָ֔ה לִשְׁלֹ֖שׁ הַשָּׁנִֽים׃
וְצִוִּיתִי אֶת־בִּרְכָתִי לָכֶם בַּשָּׁנָה הַשִּׁשִּׁית וְעָשָׂת אֶת־הַתְּבוּאָה לִשְׁלֹשׁ הַשָּׁנִֽים׃
I shall command (direct) My blessing to you in the sixth year and it will produce [enough] for three years.
Onkelosוֶאֱפַקֵד יָת בִּרְכְּתִי לְכוֹן בְּשַׁתָּא שְׁתִיתֵתָא וְתַעְבֵּד יָת עֲלַלְתָּא לִתְלַת שְׁנִין
Rashiלשלש השנים. למקצת הששית מניסן ועד ראש השנה, ולשביעית, ולשמינית, שיזרעו בשמינית במרחשון ויקצרו בניסן:
Rashi · EnglishFor three years, for part of the sixth, from Nisan until Rosh Hashanah and the seventh and eighth [years], since they would sow in the eighth during Marcheshvon, and harvest in [the following] Nisan.
וזרעתם את השנה השמינת ואכלתם מן־התבואה ישן עד ׀ השנה התשיעת עד־בוא תבואתה תאכלו ישן׃
וּזְרַעְתֶּ֗ם אֵ֚ת הַשָּׁנָ֣ה הַשְּׁמִינִ֔ת וַאֲכַלְתֶּ֖ם מִן־הַתְּבוּאָ֣ה יָשָׁ֑ן עַ֣ד ׀ הַשָּׁנָ֣ה הַתְּשִׁיעִ֗ת עַד־בּוֹא֙ תְּב֣וּאָתָ֔הּ תֹּאכְל֖וּ יָשָֽׁן׃
וּזְרַעְתֶּם אֵת הַשָּׁנָה הַשְּׁמִינִת וַאֲכַלְתֶּם מִן־הַתְּבוּאָה יָשָׁן עַד ׀ הַשָּׁנָה הַתְּשִׁיעִת עַד־בּוֹא תְּבוּאָתָהּ תֹּאכְלוּ יָשָֽׁן׃
You shall plant in the eighth year but you will still be eating from the old produce until the ninth year; until the [new] produce arrives (ripens) you shall eat [from] the old.

Rashiעד השנה התשיעת. עד חג הסכות של תשיעית שהיא עת בוא תבואתה של שמינית לתוך הבית, שכל ימות הקיץ היו בשדה בגרנות, ובתשרי הוא עת האסיף לבית. ופעמים שהיתה צריכה לעשות לארבע שנים, בששית שלפני השמטה השביעית, שהן בטלין מעבודת קרקע שתי שנים רצופות השביעית והיובל, ומקרא זה נאמר בשאר השמטות כולן:
Rashi · EnglishUntil the ninth year, until the festival of Sukkos of the ninth [year], which is the season of bringing the crop of the eighth [year] into the house. [That is,] since [during] all the days of summer [the crops] were in the fields in the granaries, and Tishrei is the season of gathering into the house. At times, [the crops] would have to last four years — the sixth before the sabbatical year, [which is] the seventh, during which they refrain from working the land for two consecutive years, the seventh and the jubilee year. [However,] this verse was said regarding all other sabbatical cycles.
והארץ לא תמכר לצמתת כי־לי הארץ כי־גרים ותושבים אתם עמדי׃
וְהָאָ֗רֶץ לֹ֤א תִמָּכֵר֙ לִצְמִתֻ֔ת כִּי־לִ֖י הָאָ֑רֶץ כִּֽי־גֵרִ֧ים וְתוֹשָׁבִ֛ים אַתֶּ֖ם עִמָּדִֽי׃
וְהָאָרֶץ לֹא תִמָּכֵר לִצְמִתֻת כִּי־לִי הָאָרֶץ כִּֽי־גֵרִים וְתוֹשָׁבִים אַתֶּם עִמָּדִֽי׃
The land shall not be sold in perpetuity, for the land is Mine, for, you are [merely as] foreigners and resident aliens before Me.
Onkelosוְאַרְעָא לָא תִזְדַבַּן לַחֲלוּטִין אֲרֵי דִילִי אַרְעָא אֲרֵי דַיָרִין וְתוֹתָבִין אַתּוּן קֳדָמַי
Rashiוהארץ לא תמכר. ליתן לאו על חזרת שדות לבעלים ביובל, שלא יהא הלוקח כובשה (ת"כ שם ח): לצמתת. לפסיקה, למכירה פסוקה עולמית: כי לי הארץ. (ת"כ) אל תרע עינך בה (שם), שאינה שלך:
Rashi · EnglishThe land shall not be sold — to place a prohibition regarding the [buyer’s refusal to] return the fields to their [original] owners during the jubilee — [in order that] the buyer should not withhold it. In perpetuity, for cutting off [ownership from the original owner], in a sale which severs [the field] forever. For the land is Mine. Do not begrudge it, for it is not yours.
ובכל ארץ אחזתכם גאלה תתנו לארץ׃ (ס)
וּבְכֹ֖ל אֶ֣רֶץ אֲחֻזַּתְכֶ֑ם גְּאֻלָּ֖ה תִּתְּנ֥וּ לָאָֽרֶץ׃ (ס)
וּבְכֹל אֶרֶץ אֲחֻזַּתְכֶם גְּאֻלָּה תִּתְּנוּ לָאָֽרֶץ׃ (ס)
In all of your ancestral lands you shall grant redemption to the land.
Onkelosוּבְכֹל אַרְעָא אַחֲסַנְתְּכוֹן פֻּרְקָנָא תִּתְּנוּן לְאַרְעָא
Rashiובכל ארץ אחזתכם. (ת"כ) לרבות בתים, ועבד עברי (שם ט), ודבר זה מפורש בקידושין בפרק א' (דף כא.). ולפי פשוטו, סמוך לפרשה שלאחריו, שהמוכר אחוזתו רשאי לגאלה לאחר שתי שנים, או הוא, או קרובו, ואין הלוקח יכול לעכב:
Rashi · EnglishIn all your ancestral lands, [this comes] to include houses [and] a Hebrew slave; and this matter is explained in [Tractate] Kiddushin, in the first chapter. And according to its plain meaning, [this verse is placed] adjacent to the following section, [in order to introduce the law that] one who sells his landed property may redeem it after two years — either he or his relative — and the buyer may not impede [it].
